Edwards Partners with Airthings to Distribute Indoor Air Quality Monitors

Airthings, a manufacturer of indoor air quality products is entering into a distribution alliance with Edwards, a Carrier brand, to offer Edwards’ American and Canadian dealers access to Airthings’ products.

Edwards, a manufacturer of fire detection and alarm systems, will distribute Airthings to its 500-member partner network, and according to both companies, the partnership will bring indoor air quality monitoring to commercial buildings with the goal of making these solutions as common as smoke detectors.

“Edwards and Airthings share a mutual commitment to improving indoor environments. Expanding our comprehensive fire and life safety offering to include indoor air quality monitoring will further enable our customers to create safer, healthier indoor environments,” states Angie Gomez, president of Edwards.

The companies point out that as part of the agreement Edwards will “commercialize the Airthings for Business solution” through its channel partners. The indoor air quality monitors will track and control a room and buildings’ indoor air quality to help ensure healthy building environments. Besides providing the benefit of improved indoor air quality, the companies note the solutions will help reduce energy costs to provide tangible benefits.

Airthings’ wireless indoor air quality products are designed to setup within a few minutes and they are powered by long-running batteries.

Another key feature of the scalable Airthings product line is that its sensors deliver air quality data to Abound, which is Carrier’s new open-technology platform that is designed to bring intelligence to building environments.

Edwards explains that Abound compiles data from different systems and sensors to provide building owners, property managers and occupants with relevant information concerning indoor air quality, thermal data and other performance-related data.

“Airthings is on a mission to empower the world to breath better through simple, affordable and accurate technology solutions. Together with Edwards and Carrier, we can build on our pursuit of making air quality sensors an essential element of every building and home helping even more people take control of their air quality and protect their health,” adds Oyvind Birkenes, CEO, Airthings.

“Entering a strategic agreement with a brand like Carrier is a massive step that will accelerate the evolution of air quality monitoring into an indispensable aspect of any HVAC system or building safety solution.”
