Legrand to Phase Out Nuvo Audio Brand

Legrand is phasing out its venerable Nuvo multiroom audio and loudspeaker brand, ending product production but providing ongoing support over the next several years.

“The Nuvo brand and associated product will be end of life,” Darrin Thurston, VP/GM at Legrand, tells CE Pro.

Nuvo burst on the scene back in 2002 under the leadership of CEO David Rodarte. Sold primarily through distribution, the company was a pioneer in hardwired and powerline multiroom audio systems. Like many distributed audio manufacturers, Nuvo saw its market share decline with the advent of wireless audio from Sonos. Legrand acquired Nuvo in 2012.

Legrand has put together an extensive FAQ update regarding the Nuvo transition that integrators can read here about Legrand’s plans for timelines, product technical support, firmware upgrades/bug fixes, warranty coverage specifics and more.

“Current technical staff remains and will be augmenting support for other brands in addition to Nuvo responsibilities,” Thurston says.

Among the FAQs, Legrand offers a downloadable PDF cross-reference chart for integrators outlining brand/product alternatives to Nuvo’s current portfolio, which features the Nuvo Player multiroom audio ecosystem.

“In the last year and a half, we’ve worked tirelessly to keep our brands operating through unprecedented challenges, but as manufacturing and supply chain constraints continue to affect the audio industry, we’ve made the tough decision to cease production of all Nuvo products, starting in November 2021,” the company states in a message on the cross-reference chart.

“We realize this transition may put you in a difficult position with existing project specs; so we’ve created this cross-reference tool to help you select alternative manufacturer solutions.”

Alternates include Bluesound, Denon/HEOS, Russound, Sonos, Triad, URC, Vanco, Vssi and Yamaha. Last year, Legrand announced a multiyear licensing agreement with Sonos to utilize its technology in Nuvo Player portfolio products.

Legrand’s Nuvo End-of-Life Timelines, Support

Among the key dates integrators should know as outlined in the FAQ:

Production of Nuvo products is expected to end at the end of 2021 or as final components become available for manufacturing.All products purchased on or after October 13, 2021, will be considered final sale and are not returnable for credit or refund. Legrand will continue to provide technical support for Nuvo products through October 2023. There is no change to how dealers reach their support team, the company notes.

The company adds that it will be closely watching inventory in the coming weeks, but dealers should contact reps about fulfillment status on current projects.

“We will continue to maintain the Nuvo Player system and third-party integrations but continued support will be limited to the current state of technology. Bug fixes and version upgrades will be made available through October 10, 2025,” per the FAQ.

In addition to its push of the Nuvo Player portfolio and products such as the P500 Soundbar, Nuvo has also made its products integration-friendly for European installers in recent years with KNX integration and DIN rail mounting solutions shown at ISE.

Apart from Nuvo, Legrand’s wide-ranging collection of product lines includes The Adorne Collection, C2G, Cablofil, Da-Lite, Electrorack, Luxul, Middle Atlantic, OCL, On-Q, Ortronics, Pass & Seymour, Pinnacle, QMotion, Quiktron, Raritan, Solarfective, Vaddio, Vantage, Wattstopper, Wiremold and others.
