Recently, CE Pro spoke with Scott Stephenson, the director of product management for motorization at Hunter Douglas, to find out how the company’s products can be deployed in wellness projects, the opportunities the lighting and wellness markets offer for integrators, and much more. Here’s his full response:
Scott Stephenson: Smart lighting and shading have experienced a renaissance, becoming more refined with design over the past several years. With a keen eye on aesthetic and customization, the latest solutions in lighting and shading synchronize seamlessly with the home and a homeowner’s lifestyle.
This shift has drawn more homeowners to explore the benefits of the fully automated home. Smart shades, when coupled with lighting, enhance key smart home features, such as convenience, energy savings, security and privacy, entertainment, and perhaps most popularly, wellness.
With the wellness boom, human-centric home systems have come into focus and represent a huge opportunity for integrators. Helping clients understand the benefits of automated shading requires integrators to paint a picture of the benefits it can bring to their home.
A few things to consider as you start the conversation with homeowners as it relates to wellness: Both natural and artificial light are key influencers to mood, productivity, and the circadian rhythm. Lighting temperature, intensity, and scheduling can support a routine, whether it’s by gently waking families with shades synchronized to the sunrise or supporting productive work or homework time with a comfortable glow.
When it comes to finding the right partner to suit the technology and design needs of the homeowner, Hunter Douglas shades and PowerView shading additions can blend seamlessly into any smart home system, with different styles and fabrics with varying light filtering and room darkening options to suit any homeowner’s needs.
